Remote Control Car Retrofit

What it is:

Bring an old toy RC Car (or pick one up we've discovered wilkinsons sells them for £6). We'll take it a little bit apart and rewire it so it is programmable with an Arduino.

example:

What We Do:

Pop off the body work, cut out the existing electronics (these can then be used for other projects, it is possible to use the existing drive circutry but can proove problamatic). Add a motor control chip, Arduino, and any sensors you think appropriate. Sodler it up and program it for autonomous navigation.

What is needed to make your own:

(£9.99 Version from Argos) - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3695546.htm (currently 2 for £15)

(is nice because it has 4 AA batteries, we'll figure out how to do it without an additional chip as well) (if you bring one of these along we'll help you sort it into an Arduino powered version.

-Arduino

-Laptop with Arduino IDE installed

-Sensors (any number of sensors you would like to include (maybe look online for some popular ones, line sensing kits and IR distance sensing are popular)

-Some Soldering

(£5.99 version from Wilkinsons) - Not very good requires an extra battery and is quite underpowered

-Old Remote Control Car

-L293 (dual h-bridge chip)

-Breadboard or perf board

-Arduino

-Laptop with Arduino IDE installed

-Sensors (any number of sensors you would like to include (maybe look online for some popular ones, line sensing kits and IR distance sensing are popular)
