really looking forward to meeting others interested in arduino and living in the northwest, it can be a lonely experience trying to figure stuff out with only the internet for guidance. My own interest is in building contraptions that can be played like musical instruments and to that end I have been (unsuccessfully as yet) trying to interface Arduino with MIDI, if anyone has any interest in this or experience I would love to hear from you and try and get something ready for the workshop

What time does it start?

Hi everyone!
My name is Georgina and I am going to participate at the workshop as well. I am an interactive media student. I have been extremely busy the past month as I just finished my final year and I was working on my final project that employed motion detection via web cams for a live art project. I have tried to read some of the posts but I really didn't manage to understand what is going on. I have been using phidgets in the past along with Adobe flash to create some projects as well as web cams & microphones again with action script in adobe Flash to create some applications. My final project combined the motion detection with a software called Isadora(live projection software). Could anything of that knowledge help? Also do you think someone could explain to me what will happened in this workshop? Or if I need to prepare something etc? I was advised by my tutor to participate as I love experimentation and I intent to use new technologies in art projects again in the future but I was not informed in detail about it. Also I know this workshop is taking place at Fact but what time does it start? I would really appreciate some info!

The page on Eventbrite http://howduino.eventbrite.com/ says it kicks off at 10:30AM and finishes at 6PM. I think FACT opens at about 10:30.

Hi Georgina,

As Martin and Thom have said, we'll be around in the cafe at FACT from 10:30 for coffee and introductions, before moving into Gallery 1 at 11.

As to what's happening on the day, it's a fairly free-form and hands-on session for people to play around with connecting bits of hardware together, hooking them up to Arduino boards and computers, and therefore maybe on to the Internet. You don't need to have done any preparation beforehand, but if you want to it might be worth having a look round the Arduino website - http://arduino.cc or reading through some of the projects that people are proposing to see if any sound interesting. I expect people will be teaming up on the day to work together on things, and Thom and I will be on hand to help out with anything people need.

If you're not sure what to attempt then maybe look at the BrushBots or Alertuino projects as they're fairly simple. For the Alertuino it would help if you could bring some cheap electronic toy that you didn't mind hacking (/breaking) - where you basically use the Arduino and computer to trigger actions on the toy when things happen on the Internet. Or if you're feeling more ambitious then maybe join the dancing robots team and build yourself a robot.

georgina, I think some of us are bringing the Arduino ethernet board which allows connection to the internet.
